The Alcove Center for Grieving Children & Families: Bereavement Center

Alcove Memory Lane

Picture of The Alcove Memory Lane

Memories are important. They make us who we are, and give us a sense of ourselves in the world. For grieving children and teens, memories are what they have left of the special person they have lost.

That's why The Alcove's memorial wall is called Memory Lane. It is a 7' by 11' artistic representation of a whimsical path through four seasons in a child's world, with a playground, ballpark, beach and other happy places. It's a world full of animals, nature, ice cream, gingerbread houses, scarecrows and snowmen. Memory Lane, a visual example of childhood hopes and dreams, illustrates how we strive to help grieving children and teens return to a hopeful frame of mind.

Memory Lane will help The Alcove raise the funds it needs to continue, and it is a beautiful piece of art that will grace our bereavement center for many years. The Alcove Memory Lane was created by artist Lisa Zachs and Schoppy's Spencer Hamilton, under the direction of an Alcove committee led by Board Member Cheryll Smith. We would like you to be part of it, by purchasing a piece to personalize with your name or the name of someone special to you.

A three line statement (20 characters per line) on one of the colored tiles of Memory Lane's path costs $125. Here are some samples of what they might say:

In Memory of
a Wonderful Father,
Jim Johnson
Love to the Alcove
From the Conovers
Jim, Carole & Sally
In honor of
Karen Delaney
Mentor and Friend

There are also more than 50 special pieces on the wall, such as storefronts, a fountain, baseball diamond, lifeguard stand, snowman, scarecrow and trees and apples that can be personalized for amounts ranging from $250 to $5,000. Each piece has the capacity for a different number of letters.

Please contact us if you are interested in reserving one of these special pieces.

We hope to see you on Memory Lane!
