School support groups provide children/teens with a safe environment in which to explore the many thoughts and feelings associated with grief. Group participation teaches coping skills that helps reduce anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, and substance abuse. Peer support groups encourage children to feel safe about discussing feelings of sadness, fear, anger, and confusion that accompany a loss.
